Artist Josh Herman has trained extensively in Hakomi therapy, a present-centered psychotherapy grounded in the principles of Taoism. Early in his career, he lived in both the U.S. and Japan, and studied with Paul Soldner, the inventor of American-style Raku. Approaching the objects he creates from the Eastern principle of mindfulness, Herman's work evokes unconscious abstractions mixed with the organic beauty of nature. Handmade in California using all organic materials, this sculptural Pod (2003) is made with a volcanic glaze that is proprietary to Herman. His mastery of this unique glaze, combined with his passion for mid-century modern design, has resulted in a unique quality and style of work rarely seen in ceramics over the last several decades. These are handmade items; no two pieces are exactly the same. Inconsistencies in size, finish and color are to be expected. Made in U.S.A.
